The most powerful message your organization has doesn't come from a script, it's in the people who live it every day. The hard part is getting them to say it on camera. On Oct. 22, filmmaker Phillip Voeller will share the interviewing techniques he uses to help everyday people relax, open up, and speak from the heart, whether that's a nonprofit volunteer, a founder, or a longtime employee. He'll show how he shapes those unscripted conversations into stories that feel honest and compelling, and he'll give you practical tips you can use on your next video, even if all you have is a phone. You'll leave knowing how to ask better questions, make people comfortable on camera, and let the people you film tell your story in their own words.
Phillip Voeller grew up with a camera in his hands and spent several years teaching music. His background in music gave him an understanding of audio engineering, and his natural sense of working with a camera drew him into filmmaking. Through Hi5 Media Solutions, Phillip helps people realize the impact of businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations by telling the stories behind their work. Phillip is also the owner of Starstruck Videography, creating cinematic, dialogue-driven, high-end wedding films. Whether he's filming a nonprofit's mission or a couple's wedding day, his approach is the same: find the people at the heart of it and let them tell their story in their own words. He believes the most effective communication starts with a real story, told well. Note: Park in the Century Center's south lot and enter through door #2. The conference room is to the left of WSI's reception desk.
