Build Your Own Tour: The North Dakota Professional Communicators recommend visiting the following places during your self-guided tour.

  1. Get a selfie with the historic Fargo Theatre sign or see a movie in the art deco-style theater built in 1926.
  2. Visit the boutiques and restaurants in downtown Fargo, within easy walking distance of the Radisson Blu.
  3. Snap a photo with the famous Fargo Woodchipper from the Fargo movie.
  4. The Red River Zoo features exotic and native animals from areas around the world with similar climates to the Red River Valley. See Red Pandas, Pallas Cats, Gray Wolves, Bactrian Camels, and a variety of farm animals up close.
  5. Thirsty? Check out Fargo-Moorhead’s mix of wineries, breweries, and distilleries.
  6. Pop into the Plains Art Museum in downtown Fargo or the Rourke Art Gallery and Museum across the Red River in downtown Moorhead, Minnesota. Both have free admission!
  7. Grab a cup of joe at Atomic Coffee, an ice cream cone from Silver Lining Creamery, or a donut from Sandy’s Donuts (or all three!) and people watch at Broadway Square. All these destinations are one block or less from the Radisson Blu’s front doors.
  8. The Hjemkomst (pronounced YEM-komst) Center in Moorhead features the historic Hjemkomst Viking Ship, which sailed from the Great Lakes to Norway in 1982. The Center’s other exhibits celebrate the history and culture of Moorhead and Clay County, Minnesota. The grounds of the Hjemkomst Center include the exquisitely detailed Hopperstad Stave Church which is a replica of a church of the same name that’s located in Vik, Norway.
  9. If you’re looking for some Instagram-worthy spots, here’s a map of downtown Fargo’s murals. All of them are within easy walking distance of the Radisson Blu.
  10. Travel back in time to the 1800s and early 1900s at Bonanzaville, USA in West Fargo. The museum and pioneer village includes Fargo’s first house, as well as a schoolhouse, saloon, hotel, church, and mercantile store. A visit to Bonanzaville provides a look into early settlers’ lives to see how they lived and the challenges they faced.
  11. Seek out the 14 painted bison statues throughout Fargo and take a selfie with each one!
  12. Get more ideas for your self-guided tour in the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitor’s Bureau’s First-timer’s Guide to Fargo Must See Attractions

Enjoy Fargo nightlife on your own

Grab a local beer: Fargo has eight craft breweries. Yes, you read that right, eight of them. And the Growler recently named us in their top five weekend drink destinations in the Midwest. All of the area’s breweries make fantastic beer, and constantly have a rotating list of fun events happenings. To mention a few, Fargo Brewing Company was the very first brewery in Fargo and they make some great summer beers. Junkyard Brewing in Moorhead makes experimental and small-batch beers, and Drekker Brewing opened their Viking beer heaven – Brewhalla – near Downtown Fargo. Check this web page for exact addresses.

Enjoy live music: There’s a good chance whatever brewery you’re at has some live music happening. If it doesn’t and you really want to squeeze one last thing into your trip, you can always find some live music in Fargo. Check out this guide to live music venues in the city to cap off your night with some local sounds.

Try Fargo’s first craft distillery: Stop in at Proof in downtown Fargo for a cocktail made with their house-made gin, vodka, liqueur, whiskey, or bourbon. Their skilled mixologists will concoct a delicious drink for you from the extensive cocktail list. 414 4th Ave N, Fargo
