For me, the connections and experience I’ve gained through my membership in these groups has been invaluable. Quite honestly, I don’t believe my career would be where it is without the opportunities I’ve found through these organizations. Through FMPC’s luncheons I’ve listened to countless speakers who’ve given advice and shared their knowledge of our industry. The friends and connections I’ve made are likely the greatest part of membership. Don’t just take my word for it. Here are a few testimonials from a variety of members:
Jill Schramm, staff writer at Minot Daily News: NDPC has broadened my network beyond my co-workers to other communication professionals in my community and state, while opening doors to meet other communicators from around the nation. I've grown professionally through the development opportunities I've had and the leadership roles I've been entrusted with, but it's the people I've met who have encouraged and inspired me to aim higher.
Cathy Jelsing, owner CJ Communications: Joining NDPC was the best thing I ever did for my career. My first formal training in journalism took place at NDPC workshops. The skills I developed, the NDPC awards I won, and the relationships I built have been instrumental to my success as a professional communicator. If you want to work in North Dakota, join NDPC.
Katie Hutton, marketing coordinator at Eide Bailly: FMPC and NDPC have been greatly beneficial in my career as a communications and marketing professional. The organization allows me to network and build connections with individuals in my line of work. It’s also great for fostering new ideas and encouraging dialogue. There are several ideas I have taken from the FMPC monthly speakers and implemented in some form at my own organization.
Tim Morrissey, Noridian Health Solutions: NDPC has introduced me to people who are passionate about communications, and provided a great monthly forum for learning and discussion. It's allowed me to grow my network of people who are important to my career. The membership yields a big return each year on a very small investment.
Lisa Richmond, Lutheran Social Services: NDPC’s conferences and monthly lunch meetings provide two excellent things: high-end training on everything from online writing styles to wise management during crises – and a comfortable way to meet many new people working in PR, journalism, and design. Plus, we have a lot of fun.
Merrie Sue Holtan, communications studies instructor at Minnesota State University Moorhead: FMPC (then Media Club) members helped me find new freelance writing opportunities when I moved to the F-M community. I also gained knowledge about trends in the communication industry via the monthly speakers. I am grateful to the organization (local, state and national) for providing a network of professionals and friends as well as a chance to enter the yearly contest .
